Police identified the victim as Ahmad Mims and said the shooting happened inside a Rosedale Street home.
WASHINGTON — A 13-year-old boy was fatally shot Saturday night inside a home in Northeast Washington, and police are searching for a juvenile male seen leaving the area on a bicycle.
The Metropolitan Police Department identified the boy as Ahmad Mims of Northeast Washington. Officers were sent to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street NE at about 8:24 p.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a person down, police said.
Officers found Mims on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and determined that he showed no signs of life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives later determined that the shooting occurred inside a home in the same block, according to police. Authorities have not said how Mims reached the sidewalk after he was wounded or whether other people were inside the residence at the time.
Police have not released information about what led to the shooting. They also have not said whether Mims and the person being sought knew each other or whether a firearm has been recovered.
Investigators are looking for a Black juvenile male who was last seen near 16th and Rosedale streets. Police said he was riding a black bicycle and wearing a black shirt and black pants. Authorities have not identified him or described him as being under arrest.
The department’s Homicide Branch is leading the investigation. No arrest had been announced as of Monday, and police had not released a suspected motive.
Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible. The investigation remains active.
