2 dead, 2 arrested after shootout in Dallas

DALLAS, TX – A deadly altercation erupted near the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge in West Dallas, resulting in the deaths of two young men and the arrest of two others. The tragic events unfolded late Monday night, leaving the community grappling with fear and uncertainty.

The victims have been identified as 18-year-old Abdullah Al-Badri and 20-year-old Oswaldo Gutierrez. Another individual remains hospitalized, while two teenagers have been detained by authorities in connection with the violent incident.

By day, the Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge area is a popular spot for locals enjoying the scenic views and fresh air. However, according to residents, nightfall brings a shift in atmosphere. Vidal Arredondo, a lifelong resident, recounted hearing gunshots from a nearby parking lot and promptly calling 911 as the chaos unfolded.

Police reports indicate that the violence erupted around 11 p.m. during a gathering in the parking lot. A dispute between two groups escalated into gunfire, leaving three individuals with gunshot wounds. Two additional victims had already been taken to the hospital before officers arrived. A bullet-riddled SUV was later seen outside the emergency room, a stark reminder of the night’s violence.

A witness, caught in the crossfire, described the ordeal of being trapped in an active crime scene for hours. “We were on a night walk when the shooting started,” he recounted. “We returned and were stuck there for about eight hours.”

As the investigation progresses, another vehicle, also riddled with bullets, was towed from the crime scene for evidence processing. Juan Rodriguez, a nearby resident, expressed his concerns about safety, noting that gunfire is a regular occurrence in the area. “It gets out of hand on weekends. We always hear gunshots and fear for our safety,” he said.

The suspects, 18-year-old Manuel Alvarez and 19-year-old Fernando Sanchez, have been arrested and are facing charges related to the shootout. Authorities are continuing their investigation to unravel the circumstances leading to the violence.

The incident has sparked renewed discussions about crime and safety in West Dallas, with residents calling for more police presence and community efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to such violence.
