Accra-Kumasi Highway Bus Crash Leaves Multiple Fatalities and Injuries

Accra, Ghana – A tragic road accident on the Accra to Kumasi highway has left multiple people dead and injured. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning near Atwemamena in the Eastern Region, involved a red Scania Marcopolo bus colliding with a truck.

Eyewitnesses at the scene described the accident as severe, with several passengers, including the bus driver and mate, losing their lives. In the aftermath of the crash, victims were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for urgent medical care. This unfortunate event adds to the concerning trend of frequent road accidents in Ghana.

Statistics reveal that in the first quarter of the year, Ghana has already recorded a significant number of road accidents, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. The Orthopaedic Association of Ghana (OAG) has urged the government to take action by implementing comprehensive trauma care systems and enforcing strict road safety measures.

During their recent conference in Kwahu, the OAG emphasized the importance of timely and effective treatment for trauma patients, as well as the strict enforcement of road traffic laws. They also highlighted the need for promoting the use of helmets and seat belts, as well as improving road infrastructure to enhance overall safety for all road users.

The devastating impact of road accidents not only results in loss of life but also poses a significant burden on the healthcare system. By addressing these issues through proactive measures and public awareness campaigns, Ghana can work towards reducing the frequency and severity of road accidents in the country.

Efforts to improve road safety must be a collective endeavor, involving government authorities, healthcare professionals, and the general public. With a concerted effort towards implementing sustainable solutions, Ghana can strive towards a safer road environment for all its citizens.
