Akron Police Chief Urges Witnesses to Come Forward After Mass Shooting Leaves One Dead and 24 Injured

Akron, Ohio – Police are urging witnesses to come forward with information following a tragic mass shooting that resulted in one fatality and 24 injuries. The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday in the city of Akron, where multiple victims were reported to have been struck by gunfire. Emergency rooms in local hospitals received individuals with gunshot wounds shortly after the shots were fired.

Authorities have confirmed a total of 25 victims, with some in critical condition while others sustaining non-life threatening injuries. Among the victims was a 27-year-old man who tragically lost his life. The individual’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

Cleveland Clinic stated that they admitted seven patients, one in critical condition, following the shooting. Additionally, Summa Health reported receiving 15 patients, with 13 having non-life threatening injuries and one in critical condition. Investigators recovered two handguns and over 35 bullet shell casings at the scene of the outdoor party where the shooting took place.

Mayor Shammas Malik expressed the community’s shock and devastation, emphasizing the importance of holding those responsible for the violence accountable. Rewards totaling $22,500 have been offered by different agencies for information leading to the arrest of a suspect involved in the shooting.

Senator Sherrod Brown extended his thoughts to the victims and those affected by the tragic incident, acknowledging the swift response of first responders. An unnamed witness described a festive atmosphere at the street party before the violence erupted, with hundreds of attendees wearing white T-shirts and women dancing on vehicles.

Authorities are still searching for a suspect and are appealing to the public for any information that may aid in the investigation. The community is rallying together in the face of this tragedy, determined to seek justice and ensure the safety of all residents.
