Phoenix, Arizona – A fatal shooting in a Phoenix alley has left one man dead, with the suspected shooter claiming self-defense. The incident, which occurred near 27th Avenue and Campbell, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Roy Orozco on February 22.
According to court documents, 22-year-old Andrew Anthony Ormsby and Orozco engaged in an argument during a walk down the alley. Ormsby stated that Orozco questioned his ability to carry a gun, leading to a confrontation where Ormsby shot Orozco, believing it to be an act of self-defense.
Following the shooting, Ormsby fled the scene while Orozco succumbed to his injuries. Surveillance footage from businesses and residences in the area provided authorities with crucial information about Ormsby’s appearance and whereabouts.
Police eventually located Ormsby at Glendale’s Bonsall Park, an area frequented by homeless individuals. Subsequently, Ormsby was taken into custody at 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, around 6:15 p.m.
After being interviewed by law enforcement, Ormsby was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon as a prohibited person due to a prior felony conviction in 2021. His gun rights had not been restored following the conviction.
