Animal Abuse Charges Filed Against Las Vegas Couple Accused of Pet Hoarding

Las Vegas, Nevada – A Las Vegas couple is facing multiple felony animal abuse charges after being accused of hoarding dozens of animals in deplorable conditions, resulting in the deaths of several pets. Timothy Miller, 79, and Carolyn Luke, 72, have been charged by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office with 16 counts of animal cruelty, one for each dog found dead in their house and hotel room back in March.

District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated that the dogs “lived, and died, in deplorable conditions,” being deprived of basic needs like food, water, and medical attention, ultimately leading to organ failure. Each animal cruelty count carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Additionally, the couple had other animals in their care, including tortoises, guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, and parrots, according to the D.A.’s office.

The case against Miller and Luke came to light when Boulder City police discovered multiple animals in their car during a vehicle stop. In May, a Boulder City Municipal Court judge sentenced them with a suspended sentence and ordered treatment for their hoarding issues. Their next court appearance is scheduled for August 22, with the couple being prohibited from possessing any animals during their release.

This incident sheds light on the seriousness of animal hoarding and abuse cases, emphasizing the importance of proper care and treatment for animals. The charges filed against Miller and Luke highlight the legal consequences of neglecting and mistreating animals, underscoring the need for awareness and action to prevent such occurrences in the future. The couple’s actions have brought attention to the issue of animal welfare within the community and raised concerns about the well-being of animals in vulnerable situations.

Authorities are actively monitoring the case and ensuring that justice is served for the animals that suffered due to neglect and mistreatment. The outcome of this legal proceeding will send a clear message about the repercussions of animal abuse and the responsibility that individuals have to provide proper care and protection for all living creatures. As the court process unfolds, the community awaits a resolution that upholds the rights of animals and holds accountable those who fail to meet their basic needs.
