Dhaka, Bangladesh — Authorities have apprehended a suspect linked to the recent murder of former Swechhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir. The suspect, identified as Rahim, was arrested in Narsingdi, where law enforcement also seized the firearm believed to be used in the fatal attack.
Shafiqul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, announced the arrest on Friday. He indicated that the operation is still ongoing and promised further details at a press conference scheduled for Saturday.
This arrest comes on the heels of earlier detentions related to Musabbir’s killing. In the aftermath of the murder, which occurred behind Bashundhara City in Dhaka on January 7, police detained three other individuals—identified as Jinnat, Abdul Qadir, and Md Riaz—during nighttime operations on January 10 in areas including Manikganj and Gazipur.
The investigation into Musabbir’s death began shortly after the event, with a case filed on January 8 at Tejgaon Police Station. Suraiya Akhter, the victim’s wife, is the complainant in the case, listing four to five unnamed suspects as part of her report.
Musabbir was shot in a bustling area, prompting concern over public safety and the motives behind the attack. Details about potential motives remain sparse, but investigators are pursuing multiple leads as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the crime.
The swift response by law enforcement has raised hopes for a thorough investigation as the community seeks justice for Musabbir, a prominent political figure. Families and supporters have rallied for accountability, emphasizing the need for security in a city grappling with rising violence.
As the investigation unfolds, officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in addressing crime.
