Witnesses reported seeing another driver open fire before fleeing west from an intersection near Arlington Highlands.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Police are asking the public for information as detectives investigate the fatal shooting of a 54-year-old man who was attacked while driving a pickup near a busy Arlington shopping district Friday night.
Officers responded about 8:43 p.m. to reports of multiple gunshots near Highlander Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, according to Arlington police. The intersection is north of Interstate 20 and across from the Arlington Highlands shopping and entertainment district.
Police found a pickup that had left the roadway and stopped in a grassy area near the southwest corner of the intersection. The driver was unresponsive and had multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators that the driver of another vehicle fired several shots at the man before leaving westbound on Highlander Boulevard. Police had not released a description of the other vehicle or its driver as of Sunday.
Investigators believe the victim was shot before his pickup left the road. Police initially reported that the man had been found next to the truck, but officials later said paramedics had removed him from the vehicle before officers arrived.
Detectives are pursuing several leads, but police have not identified a suspect or announced any arrests. Authorities also have not disclosed what may have led to the shooting.
The victim’s name had not been released. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office was expected to identify him after his relatives were notified.
