East Boroko, Papua New Guinea — A violent gang, linked to a recent pack rape incident near Jackson’s Airport, has launched another brazen attack, this time on the Ex-Seminarians Club. The assault occurred around 7:30 p.m. last evening, leaving the local community in shock and fear.
Witnesses reported that a group of six to eight armed men, equipped with axes, knives, and at least one firearm, stormed into the bar, demanding money. In the ensuing chaos, a security guard attempted to halt the attackers but was severely injured when one of them slashed him in the neck. Patrons at the club described how the assailants used bottles to further instigate violence.
Residents from the surrounding area, including employees from a nearby publication, rushed to the scene to assist. However, they quickly retreated after being threatened with a firearm. An expat at the bar was struck in the face, leaving him with significant injuries. When he called for help, his pleas were met with further intimidation as attackers warned of potential gunfire.
The gang’s criminal spree did not end with the bar. After the initial raid, they stole two vehicles before attacking another individual at Manu Autoport, seizing his car as well. This wave of violence has left the community rattled and concerned for their safety.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information regarding the assaults or the perpetrators to come forward. Distrust and fear are palpable, especially after the emergence of a fugitive tied to the gang, identified as Jack Larry Marai. Witnesses reported that one of the attackers bore a striking resemblance to Marai, who is currently evading capture from Bomana Prison.
In light of these events, local leaders are calling for increased security measures in the area to protect residents and visitors alike. The repeated incidents have raised alarms about gang violence in the region, sparking discussions on the need for more effective law enforcement strategies.
As the investigation unfolds, the community remains tense, anxiously awaiting the capture of those responsible for these attacks and hoping for a swift return to safety and normalcy.
