HUMBLE, Texas – A suspect has been arrested in connection to the tragic shooting of a gas station clerk in Humble, Texas, near Bush Intercontinental Airport. The shooting occurred on Friday at about 11:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of Will Clayton Parkway. Police found the victim dead from a gunshot wound inside a car underneath the southbound ramp of the Eastex Freeway.
According to authorities, the suspects were caught on surveillance video stealing a bag of chips before being confronted by the store clerk. After the confrontation, the suspects fled the area on foot, prompting the clerk to follow them in his vehicle. The clerk then located the suspects on Will Clayton Parkway before one of them opened fire, fatally shooting him.
Following the shooting, an intense search for the suspects, described as Black men between 18 and 25 years old, was conducted with the help of K9 officers and police helicopters. The 42-year-old clerk had only been working at the gas station for about three to four months.
Despite the possible capital murder charges the suspects could be facing, an individual who frequented the gas station expressed disbelief at the tragic turn of events. He spoke of the victim’s kindness and generosity, stating that the employees were always happy to cover his coffee and expressing a willingness to help the suspects if they had needed food.
The Humble Police Department confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. No further details were provided regarding the identity of the suspect or the charges they may be facing. The incident has left the community in shock, prompting many to reflect on the senselessness of the violence that claimed the life of the gas station clerk.
