KATY, Texas — A man has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting deaths of a couple inside their home earlier this month. Authorities allege that Norman Lee Johnson, 42, is responsible for the deaths of Christopher and Trinette Lopez, both 52, following an ongoing dispute concerning custody of Johnson’s adopted daughter.
Sheriff’s investigators found the Lopezes fatally shot in their residence on Bent Springs Lane on January 12, 2026. The couple’s two adult children and a 7-year-old girl were asleep upstairs at the time, remaining unharmed.
Johnson was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force in Round Rock and is currently held in the Williamson County Jail, pending a transfer to Harris County. Court documents reveal a troubling history between Johnson and the Lopezes. In October 2024, he faced charges for harassment after allegedly threatening to kill the couple during a dispute over visitation rights with their adopted daughter.
According to relatives who reported the threats, Johnson’s violent past raised concerns that he could pose a significant risk. Records indicate that law enforcement had responded to previous incidents involving Johnson, including allegations of assault against a family member who opposed his demands for contact with the child.
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences confirmed that Christopher Lopez died from a gunshot wound to the face while Trinette Lopez suffered multiple shots to her head and hand. Both deaths were officially classified as homicides and occurred in the early morning hours around 5:43 a.m.
The circumstances surrounding the shootings remain perplexing, as investigators found no signs of forced entry and no weapon has been located. Authorities continue to seek answers as they process evidence and interview witnesses.
As Johnson awaits court proceedings, the community is grappling with the tragic loss of a couple known for their commitment to family and support of their children. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
