Houston, Texas – A man has been arrested for the alleged murder of his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend, as confirmed by the police.
On January 17th, authorities responded to an apartment complex on Dunvale Street where Jaynice Ferguson was found with a gunshot wound in her thigh. Tragically, she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. During her final moments in the ambulance, Ferguson reportedly identified her ex-boyfriend as the one who shot her, as per court records.
The suspect, Algie Mac Washington, 45, has since been charged with murder. Police had announced a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his capture. A week after the incident, the Houston police tracked down Washington at an apartment complex on Winrock Street, leading to his arrest.
Court records have revealed Washington’s extensive history of domestic abuse against Ferguson, including multiple prior felony convictions. Recent records indicated that Washington had been sentenced to a year in prison for assaulting Ferguson in March of 2023.
Ferguson’s family expressed relief that Washington is in custody, but also voiced frustration that the police did not take her reports of abuse more seriously, despite years of reaching out for help and pressing charges. At present, Washington’s bond has been set at $1 million, with strict conditions imposed if he were to be released on bail.
