PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection to a mass shooting in Philadelphia’s Kensington area that left nine individuals injured in November 2022.
Michael Smith-Davis, 25, of North Philadelphia, is facing charges of attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault, and other related offenses. He was apprehended at Kensington and Lippincott Avenues, according to Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Amoroso.
The incident occurred when 24th District officers responded to reports of a person with a gun and multiple people shot in the area of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues. Upon arrival, they discovered nine victims with gunshot wounds, four of whom were in critical condition, while the remaining five were listed as stable.
Investigations revealed that two men had fired multiple shots at a group of people outside Jack’s Bar, causing the nine injured individuals to take shelter in the bar. In addition to Smith-Davis, a minor in custody in western Pennsylvania will be extradited to Philadelphia to face charges.
The arrests coincided with the announcement of a new deputy commissioner in the Philadelphia Police Department, focusing on addressing public safety in Kensington. The District Attorney’s office is working to contact all victims of the mass shooting, ensuring that justice is served for the affected individuals.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities urge any additional victims to contact the DA’s office’s Victim Witness Services Unit. Despite the time that has passed, law enforcement is committed to pursuing justice for those affected by the 2022 shooting.
