EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) – Eufaula Police reported on Wednesday that two individuals have been arrested in connection with a series of violent incidents that occurred on Sunday, including the tragic death of a 15-year-old student.
According to the EPD, 18-year-olds Gavin Lebron Martin and Jamichael Trevon Leonard have been taken into custody and are facing charges of Capital Murder and Discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. The two are allegedly involved in the incident that resulted in the death of Zyaire Kayon Hill, which was just one of several violent crimes that occurred in the area that day.
In addition to the tragic death of Hill, there were other violent incidents that took place on Sunday, including the attempted murder of a Eufaula officer and a state fire investigator. The police had identified suspects in connection to these crimes and stated that the investigation is still ongoing.
Both Martin and Leonard are currently being held in the Eufaula City Jail. The Eufaula Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the investigation continues.
The arrests come as a relief to the community as they grapple with the shocking violence that occurred over the weekend. The Eufaula Police Department’s swift action in apprehending the suspects has brought some sense of closure to a community in mourning.
