SAN ANTONIO — In a recent development that has brought a measure of solace to a bereaved family, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Azariah Feliciano. The incident occurred in the early hours of April 27 at the downtown intersection of Travis Street and Main Avenue, as Feliciano was leaving a local Fiesta celebration.
Family members said Feliciano, who was eagerly participating in the Fiesta festivities for the first time as an adult, tragically lost his life in an alleged act of violence that has shocked the community. According to local police, the incident unfolded shortly after Feliciano and several friends gave a ride to two women who had earlier been involved in a confrontation with the suspects.
While driving, Feliciano and his friends encountered the group of suspects at a traffic light. It was then that two individuals from the group allegedly brandished firearms and opened fire on the pickup truck, striking Feliciano and the two women passengers. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Feliciano succumbed to his injuries, while the women eventually recovered from life-threatening wounds.
The suspects eluded capture initially, however, comprehensive community and police efforts led to a break in the case. With substantial assistance from tips linked to a cellphone video recorded by the women during the incident, authorities were able to apprehend 19-year-old Muslim Abdalridha. A second suspect has been identified but remains unnamed as of the latest updates from law enforcement.
Feliciano’s mother, April, expressed profound grief mixed with a grim sense of relief following the arrests. “He was a loving son, a loving brother. It’s been a long road,” she recounted, highlighting her son’s affectionate nature and vibrant spirit. She also lamented the senseless violence that took her son’s life, underscoring that the attackers did not personally know him.
The loss of Feliciano has been deeply felt within the family, especially as they face the poignancy of upcoming milestones he will never experience. “Azariah won’t turn 23 next month, and he will never meet his niece,” April noted, her voice laden with sorrow.
Among the few consolations for Feliciano’s family is the knowledge that he was able to save several lives through organ donation. His family reported that his organs saved at least eight other individuals, giving them a second chance at life.
As the legal process unfolds, April harbors hope that justice will prevail, though she knows no outcome will bring back her son. The case has also intensified discussions in the community about youth involvement in gun violence, with April pointing out, “It’s kids shooting and not even caring who is around.”
