Assault Investigation Launched After Man Attacked in County Longford

Ballymahon, Ireland – A man in his 40s is currently recovering in the hospital after being violently attacked by two assailants in county Longford on Sunday evening, authorities reported. The victim, a local resident, was reportedly assaulted by the two men near 5:30 pm in Ballymahon.

The attack occurred following an altercation between the victim and the two suspects over the speed at which a car connected to the assailants was observed traveling in a local neighborhood. A second confrontation ensued in the Ballybranigan area, where the two individuals, believed to be non-local, reportedly ambushed the victim with a blunt object.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after the incident, providing medical attention to the victim before transporting him to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital for further treatment. Gardaí in Ballymahon have since initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault.

According to a spokesperson, the assault was reported to authorities at approximately 5:20 pm on May 12, 2024, in the Ballymahon area of County Longford. As of now, no arrests have been made in relation to the incident, but investigators are eager to interview the victim in hopes of identifying and locating the perpetrators.

The victim, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack, continues to receive medical care at Mullingar Hospital. Authorities have assured that the investigation remains ongoing as they work diligently to bring those responsible for the assault to justice.
