Sheriff’s officials said no outstanding suspects were being sought Friday.
BALDWIN PARK, Calif. — A husband and wife were among three people killed Friday in an early morning shooting on Millbury Avenue, where authorities said they were investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.
The gunfire brought police, firefighters and sheriff’s homicide detectives to a residential area near the 10 Freeway around 5 a.m. Friday. One man and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
Authorities said the woman was 56 and her husband was 80. The third victim was described as a man between 60 and 70 years old. Officials had not said Friday how the third man was connected to the couple, and the victims’ names had not been released pending family notification and coroner procedures.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Steve De Jong said investigators did not have witnesses who saw the shooting. “Unfortunately, we don’t have any witnesses that saw what occurred,” De Jong said. Authorities also said there were no outstanding suspects, a key detail as detectives worked to determine the sequence of events inside or near the home.
Baldwin Park police made the call to the fire department and were at the location when crews arrived, according to reports citing authorities. Officials said no officers were involved in the shooting. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau was assisting Baldwin Park police, with De Jong identified as the detective lieutenant overseeing the investigation.
The scene drew a heavy emergency response before much of the neighborhood was awake. One nearby resident said she heard shots in the early morning and later saw police and helicopters near the home. She told ABC7 she knew people connected to the house and was frightened by the sudden violence.
By Friday evening, authorities had not released a motive, a detailed timeline, autopsy findings or information about any recovered firearm. The next public updates were expected to come from homicide investigators or the medical examiner as identities and official causes of death are confirmed.
