Aliquippa, PA — A bartender has been charged in connection with a violent assault at an Aliquippa Veterans of Foreign Wars bar that left a man critically injured, authorities said. The bartender, identified as Ireland Brown, becomes the third person implicated in the case following a disturbing incident on January 5 where the victim, Preston Coleman, was brutally attacked.
According to law enforcement officials, Brown was on duty the evening that the attack occurred and allegedly observed as Brett Ours launched a severe beating on Coleman. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Ours assaulting Coleman, inflicting nearly 250 punches to his head and face, in addition to kicking him approximately 50 times, strangulating, elbowing, and using a barstool as a weapon against him.
Detective David Mosura of the Aliquippa Police Department expressed dismay at Brown’s alleged inaction during the attack. “You would hope that witnessing such a horrific act would compel someone to intervene or at least call for emergency assistance promptly. Unfortunately, that was not the case here,” Mosura stated.
The situation escalated when Brown reportedly texted her father, Ronald Brown, informing him of the dire state of events, suggesting that Coleman might die from the severity of the onslaught. Subsequently, Ronald Brown arrived at the scene and allegedly contributed to the assault. Text messages from Ireland to her father indicated panic, noting that Ours was relentless in his beating and even suggested a stabbing might occur.
In a shocking turn, police recount that after the attack subsided, Ireland Brown, alongside her father and Ours, attempted to conceal evidence. She reportedly provided a washcloth that was used by the men to wipe off blood and sweat from themselves, which authorities later described as tampering with crucial evidence.
Moreover, when authorities arrived at the scene to investigate, Ireland Brown initially misled them about the identities of the assailants and claimed ignorance about the events. Detective Mosura pointed out, “Through the investigation, it became clear she knew the perpetrators and witnessed the entire incident.”
The police arrested Brett Ours earlier this month after he evaded capture for weeks. He is currently being held at the Beaver County Jail on charges of attempted homicide. Ronald Brown also faced charges related to the assault and turned himself into police last month.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Ireland Brown, who faces charges of hindering apprehension, tampering with evidence, and aggravated assault. Her alleged involvement paints a grim portrait of the events that transpired that night, raising questions about moral responsibilities and legal obligations of bystanders in violent situations.
The case continues to develop as the community reels from the brutality of the attack and the chilling indifference exhibited by those who were in positions to intervene. Authorities are determined to uncover all details and administer justice for the victim, whose life was irrevocably altered by that fateful evening at Aliquippa VFW.
