Panipat, India — A woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged murders of three young girls over the last two years, as authorities revealed shocking details surrounding the case. Police have identified the 32-year-old suspect, Poonam, who reportedly harbored a deep-seated animosity toward her victims based on their attractiveness. The case gained traction after a six-year-old girl was found dead in a water-filled tub in her family’s home earlier this week.
The grim discovery occurred during wedding festivities in the village of Naultha, where six-year-old Vidhi went missing. Her family initially treated her disappearance as a tragic accident, but upon searching, they found her lifeless body in a storeroom, face down in the tub. Investigators were quick to sense foul play and soon focused their attention on Poonam, who is Vidhi’s aunt.
Police Superintendent Bhupender Singh revealed that the suspect lured Vidhi into the room after the guests had departed and then locked the door, drowning the girl to conceal her actions. During police questioning, Poonam allegedly confessed to the murders of two additional girls, including her own three-year-old son, in a chilling pattern of behavior that police have described as psychopathic.
In her statements, Poonam expressed feelings of jealousy towards beautiful girls, stating that she feared they might outshine her in beauty as they grew older. She reportedly confessed to drowning her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter in 2023 and her cousin’s six-year-old daughter in August of this year. The Superintendent noted that despite the horrific nature of these crimes, there were no signs suggesting ritualistic sacrifices.
Poonam’s troubled history began after she married in 2019 and moved to Bhawar village. Officials have stated that her actions might stem from mental health issues, as Poonam has limited education and a troubled relationship with beauty and self-worth.
