Birmingham Alleged Spree Killer Faces Additional Murder Charges: Now Linked to 14 Deaths and Multiple Shootings

Birmingham, Alabama – Authorities in Birmingham have officially charged 22-year-old Damien McDaniel with additional counts of murder, including the capital murder of a first responder, following a series of violent crimes that have shaken the local community. These new allegations are part of a broader investigation linking McDaniel to a total of 14 murders and at least 29 injuries in the area.

McDaniel, who was initially arrested in October for multiple shootings, including a deadly rampage outside a nightclub, now faces charges in two separate cases earlier this year. In one case, he is accused of the January murder of Mia Nickson and in another, the April murder-for-hire killing of UPS driver Anthony Love Jr.

The most recent charges include the capital murder of Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton, who was fatally shot on July 12, 2023, at Fire Station #9 in the Norwood neighborhood. Another firefighter, Sergeant Jamal Jones, was also injured in the attack but survived. The Birmingham Police Department, which announced these charges, expressed their determination to seek justice for the victims.

During the press briefing, the Birmingham Police Department conveyed their appreciation to various partners, including the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and federal agencies, for their collaboration in the ongoing investigations. They underscored their commitment to an unyielding pursuit of justice, emphasizing that their efforts are steadfast.

Furthermore, McDaniel has been linked to a mass shooting at Hush Nightclub on September 21, where four individuals were fatally shot in what officials described as a targeted hit. Additional charges were brought against three more suspects identified in connection with this event: Demarco Beck Jr, Ny’Quan Lollar, and Larry Rollins Jr.

The series of violent incidents continued with the murder of single mother Diontrante Tinae Brown on September 19 and the subsequent killing of Jamarcus McIntyre on September 22, close to the scene of the nightclub shooting. While the connection between these cases remains under investigation, police have charged McDaniel in McIntyre’s death as well.

The broader implications of these crimes have reverberated through the community, prompting a strong response from Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and law enforcement officials. They have vowed to apprehend all individuals involved and ensure comprehensive justice for the victims and their families.

After his initial arrest, McDaniel was placed in Jefferson County Jail. Following a revocation of his probation on December 12, he was transferred to the custody of the Alabama Department of Corrections, where he remains as investigations and legal proceedings continue.

These events have left the Birmingham community on edge as they deal with the aftermath of the violence and seek answers. The police continue to investigate all leads to bring closure to the affected families and restore a sense of security in the area.
