BOSTON – A judge in Suffolk Superior Court has sentenced a Dorchester man to seven-and-a-half to nine years in state prison for a brutal attack on a 51-year-old woman in 2024, leaving her with severe injuries. Anthony Dew, 43, was convicted of assault and battery, including causing serious bodily harm and strangulation, following a jury verdict last week.
The charges stemmed from a horrific incident that unfolded on September 8, 2024. According to prosecutors, Dew lured the victim, a homeless woman, to his mother’s home under the pretext of doing drugs. Once inside, he subjected her to rape, strangulation, and physical assault before escaping, leaving her bloodied and in distress.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman with her clothing in disarray and injuries indicative of a savage attack. She reportedly shouted, “he raped me,” and pointed toward the apartment where the assault had occurred. Medical responders noted that she was in critical condition, showing signs of severe trauma, including facial injuries and heavy bleeding.
First responders quickly transported the victim to a local hospital for urgent care. Subsequent forensic analysis, including a DNA match from the victim’s clothing, linked Dew directly to the crime. A CODIS match revealed his profile in connection with the evidence gathered from the scene.
Judge Michael Pineault expressed concern over the nature of the crimes as well as empathy for the victim during the sentencing. Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden praised the accountability achieved through the court’s verdict but acknowledged that a mistrial was declared on additional serious charges, including attempted murder and rape, which are expected to be addressed in January.
Hayden remarked on the significance of the initial ruling, emphasizing the importance of justice for victims of such violent crimes. He also conveyed hopes for the victim’s recovery from the extensive physical and emotional scars she faces.
