Goult, France — Two men are facing murder charges following a deadly incident at a wedding reception that left a 27-year-old bride dead and several others injured. The shooting occurred last Sunday in the picturesque village of Goult, renowned for its sweeping lavender fields, where gunfire erupted during the celebrations.
According to local prosecutors, the assailants, masked and armed, opened fire in a parking area adjacent to the village hall. Among those targeted were the newlyweds and the bride’s 13-year-old nephew. Marseille Prosecutor Nicolas Bessone indicated that the bride sustained multiple gunshot wounds near her carotid artery, leading to her death. The groom was also severely injured, incurring several upper body wounds, while the young boy suffered a critical lung injury.
The chaos resulted in injuries to other guests, including the groom’s sister, who was shot in the shoulder. One of the attackers died during the incident, reportedly suffering shots to both the back and head, in addition to being struck by a vehicle as the attack unfolded. The remaining three assailants fled the scene on foot, but two were apprehended several hours later in a nearby town, with the fourth still at large.
Following a prolonged period in police custody, the two detained suspects were brought before a magistrate this week, where they were formally charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with organized crime activities. They have since been ordered to remain in custody as investigations continue.
