Broad-Daylight Drive-By in Jamaica, Queens Leaves Community in Shock After 41-Year-Old Man Killed

JAMAICA, Queens — The hunt is underway for a suspect involved in a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 41-year-old man in broad daylight. The incident unfolded around 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning, leaving residents shaken and concerned about safety in their neighborhood.

Witnesses reported hearing a series of gunshots as they began their day. Terry Simpson, who lives on 147th Street, expressed her distress, stating that she has been filled with anxiety since the shooting. “I’m still feeling shaken up. But the only thing I’m doing is praying to God for peace,” she said.

Her partner, Ty Simpson, was still in bed when the gunfire erupted. He recalled the sound vividly, describing it as “multiple” and resembling “pew pew pew.” The couple’s tranquility was shattered when exclusive video footage captured a BMW pulling up near the intersection. A gunman in the backseat opened fire, targeting a man standing nearby, who fell right in front of the Simsons’ residence.

The victim, identified as a Brooklyn resident, succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police cordoned off the area, meticulously collecting evidence, including shell casings scattered across a broad swath of the street, some landing on residents’ front patios.

Local residents are bewildered and frightened by the violence. Paul Messam, who lives nearby, voiced his concerns, stating, “We have kids and stuff around — we don’t really want this kind of thing, you know?” Many in the community are worried about the impact of ongoing wild parties that attract a turbulent crowd, contributing to a growing feeling of unease.

Although authorities have yet to determine if the shooting is connected to the influx of party attendees, tensions remain high among residents who feel increasingly vulnerable in their own community. As investigations continue, the search for the suspected shooter intensifies, leaving many to wonder about the safety of their streets.

In a neighborhood already fraught with tensions, this incident underscores the urgent need for community dialogue on safety and crime prevention. Residents hope that measures will be taken to restore peace and order, ensuring that Jamaica can feel secure once more.
