New York – Police in the South Bronx made an arrest in connection with a violent assault and rape after a video circulating online helped identify the suspect. The incident took place on May 1 on East 152nd Street near Courtland Avenue in Melrose.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when the attacker ambushed a woman, using a belt to wrap around her neck and drag her to the ground, appearing to render her unconscious. The video then shows the man positioning the victim’s body between two parked cars before assaulting her.
The victim was admitted to the hospital for treatment and has since been released. The video was shared online, leading to a swift arrest by law enforcement.
Kashaan Parks, 39, was apprehended on Saturday and is facing charges of rape, assault, strangulation, sex abuse, public lewdness, and harassment. The victim reported recognizing Parks from the neighborhood, although they did not have a personal connection.
Despite the arrest, residents in the area continue to express concerns for their safety. One neighbor, Christina Torres, voiced her fears, stating, “If it could happen to her, it could happen to anybody, and that we’re not safe.” She expressed worry about the potential increase in crime as the weather gets warmer.
The community remains on edge following the disturbing attack, emphasizing the need for vigilance and safety measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to ensure justice is served.
