Brookings Police Investigate Two Unrelated Deaths, Assure Public Safety

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Brookings Police Department is currently investigating two separate deaths that occurred this week, assuring the public that there is no threat to their safety. The first incident involved a 13-year-old experiencing a severe medical emergency on Tuesday evening, while the second incident involved an unresponsive female early Wednesday morning.

In the first case, responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene before the juvenile was transported to the Brookings Emergency Department and later pronounced deceased. The Brookings Police Department is conducting an investigation into this unattended death.

The second incident, which occurred on 3rd Avenue, involved an unresponsive female who was also pronounced deceased after being transported to the Brookings Emergency Department. The investigation into this death is being handled by the Brookings Police Department and the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation.
