BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Brookings Police Department is currently investigating two separate deaths that occurred this week. Despite this, they have assured the public that there is no threat to their safety.
The first incident involves a juvenile, which occurred on Tuesday evening. The police responded to a 13-year-old in severe medical distress at a residence on the 1800 block of 8th Street at approximately 6:37 p.m. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the juvenile was later pronounced deceased at the Brookings Emergency Department. This unattended death is currently under investigation by the Brookings Police Department.
The second incident took place early Wednesday morning when the police responded to an unresponsive female at a residence on the 1000 block of 3rd Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. First responders attempted to save the woman’s life at the scene before she was transported to the Brookings Emergency Department, where she was later pronounced deceased. The investigation into this death is being handled by both the Brookings Police Department and the South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation.
The Brookings Police Department has emphasized that there is no threat to the public regarding either of these cases. They also stated that additional details will be provided as they become available.
