Brooklyn 12-Year-Old Charged with Teen Cousin’s Shooting Death

Brooklyn, New York – A tragic incident has occurred where a 12-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter and homicide in connection to the fatal shooting of his teenage cousin. Reports indicate that the shooting took place on a Sunday, as the New York Police Department’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information shared that authorities received a call about a person who had been shot around 10:24 a.m.

While the police did not officially confirm the relationship between the victim and the shooter, sources like WNBC and WPIX have reported that the two individuals involved are cousins. According to WNBC, the boys were playing with a gun when the tragic shooting occurred.

The 14-year-old victim, later identified as Josai Guy, was found unconscious with a gunshot wound to the chest by the police. He was promptly taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead. The 12-year-old suspect, whose name has not been disclosed by the authorities, was charged on the same day with several offenses including manslaughter, recklessly causing death, criminal negligent homicide, and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree.

Neighbors revealed to WNBC that Josai was a well-liked teenager who often spent time playing with friends at local basketball courts. This heartbreaking incident has shaken the community and left many questioning how such a tragedy could have occurred between family members.
