On the night of May 8, 2022, Dru’Niyyia Griffin, then aged 20, sustained multiple gunshot wounds while seated in her black Honda Accord. The incident, which occurred in the 2800 block of Northwest 15th Court in an unincorporated area of Central Broward near Fort Lauderdale, initially left Griffin paralyzed and clinging to life in a long-term care facility. Her struggle ended sadly nearly two years later, marking a poignant and somber anniversary of the attack.
Responding deputies discovered Griffin, severely injured, around 10:30 p.m. that evening. Shortly after the shooting, a man who had also been in the vehicle with Griffin sought medical attention independently. He was subsequently treated for his injuries and released.
