Hull, England — A man was sentenced to four years in prison at Hull Crown Court for a violent robbery that left his victim injured and incapacitated on the street. Nathan High, 33, was convicted after being identified through CCTV footage that captured the brutal attack.
The incident occurred on July 29, when High confronted a man who had recently left a hostel seeking medical help. Due to his injuries, the victim had difficulty recalling the events surrounding the robbery, which highlighted the brutal nature of High’s actions.
CCTV evidence revealed High and the victim engaging in what appeared to be a physical exchange. Initially, they seemed to face each other, potentially trading punches, but the situation quickly escalated. High, wearing a black T-shirt, launched a series of punches that knocked the victim to the ground. Despite the man appearing incapacitated, High continued to kick and hit him repeatedly, even after he showed no signs of movement.
During the assault, High took the victim’s possessions, which included a mobile phone and £40 in cash, before walking away and leaving the man lying on the ground for over two minutes. The victim sustained significant injuries, including a lost tooth and cuts to his lip and nose.
In the aftermath of the attack, authorities were able to recognize High from the security footage, leading to his arrest. While he did not provide any comments during police interviews, he ultimately pleaded guilty to the robbery charge. A more serious charge of wounding with intent was dropped by prosecutors.
High’s criminal record revealed a history of violent offenses. He had faced legal repercussions for 27 previous crimes, including a suspended prison sentence for grievous bodily harm in 2014 and a two-month jail term in 2017 for possessing a knife. Most recently, in July 2022, he received a 17-week sentence for assault.
During the proceedings, High’s defense attorney noted that he had entered a guilty plea early in the process and had been in custody since his initial court appearance. The judge ultimately sentenced High to four years in prison, underscoring the serious nature of his crime and the impact it had on his victim. The court’s decision reflects a commitment to addressing violent behavior and protecting the community.
