Bastrop County, Texas – A tragic school bus crash in Bastrop County on Friday afternoon has left two individuals dead and several others injured, according to local authorities. Emergency response teams, including Austin-Travis County EMS, swiftly arrived at the scene of the crash on 2751 W. SH 21 near Caldwell Road.
Reports indicate that the rollover crash involved approximately 50 individuals. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the closure of SH 21 due to the collision, with “multiple” fatalities reported. Among the casualties were at least two individuals, including a child, as detailed by sources familiar with the situation.
Details regarding the exact number of injuries sustained in the crash have not been publicly disclosed at this time. The incident involved a Hays Consolidated Independent School District bus, transporting students from Tom Green Elementary preschool, which collided with a concrete truck near Mustang Ridge.
Shortly after the collision, emergency personnel called for two Travis County STARflight helicopters to airlift four individuals from the scene for urgent medical care. Additional patients were transported to a local medical center, with various agencies providing assistance in the aftermath of the accident.
According to a news release from Hays CISD, the students were returning from an educational trip to the Bastrop Zoo. The bus was carrying a total of 44 students and 11 adults, with the district working on reuniting students with their families.
