HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – A man accused of violently attacking an 83-year-old great-grandmother during an alleged carjacking in the Aldine area has been apprehended by Harris County sheriff’s deputies. Quinton Montgomery was captured on Monday night, just five days after disturbing videos of the attack were first aired by ABC13.
The incident took place outside La Michoacana on Aldine Mail Route Road last Thursday. The 83-year-old victim, Lydia Sanchez, was leaving the grocery store when she was forcibly pulled out of her vehicle, assaulted, and injured. The suspect then fled the scene in her car with her purse, which contained a significant amount of cash.
Sanchez, who is described as a feisty great-grandmother, is now recovering from the injury she sustained during the attack. Despite the bruise on her leg worsening since the incident, she mentioned feeling better, although she struggles to walk and experiences discomfort in her ribs.
Following the broadcast of surveillance footage on ABC13, several witnesses came forward, leading to the identification of the 35-year-old suspect. Authorities tracked Montgomery to a hotel room at America’s Best Value Inn off FM-1960 Road West, where he was eventually apprehended without incident.
During a probable cause court hearing, prosecutors revealed that Montgomery had outstanding warrants for assaulting his siblings, leading the judge to label him as a habitual offender. The judge also warned him of potential lengthy sentencing due to his criminal history, including past convictions that could result in a minimum of 25 years to life imprisonment.
Montgomery is currently held without bond as investigators prepare to file charges related to the attack on Lydia Sanchez. The Sheriff’s office suspects there may be additional victims and are relieved to have apprehended the suspect. Lee Sanchez, Lydia’s son, expressed his confidence in the swift capture of the perpetrator, providing a sense of relief for the Sanchez family.
