CHURCHVILLE, Pa. — A chilling sequence of events unfolded on January 26 when a man allegedly murdered three family members in what authorities are describing as a brutal and tragic incident. Kevin Castiglia, 55, is accused of fatally stabbing his parents while they slept and later killing his sister when she discovered their bodies.
The disturbing case began when a man contacted the Northampton Township Police Department, expressing concern for his girlfriend, Deborah Castiglia, 53, after failing to reach her for several days. The boyfriend visited the Castiglia residence the day prior and noticed his girlfriend’s car in the driveway but received no response when he knocked on the door. The following day, he returned, where he encountered Kevin, who met him wearing a robe.
According to police reports, Kevin Castiglia claimed his sister was likely on vacation but then allegedly brandished a large knife resembling one from the film “Psycho,” threatening the boyfriend’s life. The boyfriend quickly retreated and called 911, fearing for his safety. During his confrontation with the police, Kevin reportedly displayed two knives, one of which was stained with blood, escalating the situation further.
As officers arrived, they attempted to subdue Kevin with a stun gun, but he removed the probes and barricaded himself inside the house, leading to a tense standoff that lasted approximately five hours. Police eventually gained entry to the residence, where they discovered the lifeless bodies of Kevin’s parents, 90-year-old Fred and 84-year-old Judith Castiglia, in the master bedroom, as well as Deborah’s body in the kitchen.
After his arrest, Kevin was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. During treatment, he reportedly confessed to medical staff, stating, “I hurt someone.” Not long after, he allegedly acknowledged to hospital officials, “I killed my parents in their sleep,” and claimed responsibility for his sister’s murder when she stumbled upon the scene.
Authorities charged Kevin Castiglia with three counts of criminal homicide, plunging a family and a community into grief over the tragic loss. Investigators have not yet disclosed a motive behind the killings, leaving residents in shock and questioning what led to such a horrific act.
