Pembroke, North Carolina – Kalon Dial, a 20-year-old man, is facing charges of murder and attempted murder linked to a shooting near the University of North Carolina Pembroke campus earlier this month. Dial appeared in court on Thursday, where District Attorney Matt Scott revealed that he is charged with two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.
The shooting incident on March 2 resulted in the deaths of Cameron Taylor, a nursing sophomore at UNC Pembroke and a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, as well as another individual who was not a student. The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed.
During Dial’s court appearance, bond was not discussed, and the judge appointed an attorney to represent him. This decision, according to Scott, is common practice at initial court hearings. Dial was subsequently booked into the Robeson County Detention Center on Wednesday.
