MISSISSAUGA, Ontario – Kenneth Law, a 58-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, has been charged with 14 counts of second-degree murder in connection with multiple deaths across Ontario. In addition to these charges, Law was also previously facing 14 counts of counselling or aiding suicide. These new charges relate to the alleged victims in several Ontario cities, including Toronto and Thunder Bay, according to a charge sheet from the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.
Law was first arrested in May after Peel Regional Police investigated two local deaths. The alleged victims in Ontario range in age from 16 to 36. Law is accused of operating several websites that were used to sell sodium nitrite, a deadly substance at high levels, and other items that can be used for self-harm. Investigators have stated that Law allegedly sent at least 1,200 packages to people in over 40 countries, including about 160 packages sent to addresses in Canada.
While no charges have been laid abroad in connection with his online businesses, there is evidence of an FBI investigation in the U.S. progressing. Law has not yet faced any charges abroad, but authorities in New Zealand, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland have confirmed that Law shipped packages to addresses in their respective countries. Additionally, multiple Canadian police forces outside of Ontario are reviewing past sudden deaths in light of the allegations against Law.
The FBI, as a matter of longstanding policy, has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of an investigation.
