Chills and Thrills on the Tracks: Join Americus’ Murder Mystery Dinner Aboard the SAM Shortline This July!

Americus, Ga. – A unique adventure awaits in Americus this Saturday as the SAM Shortline embarks on a journey infused with mystery and drama. The event, a murder mystery dinner held aboard the historic train, is scheduled to depart at 6 p.m., offering passengers a blend of entertainment and gourmet dining through the picturesque landscapes of South Georgia.

As the train winds its way through the scenic region, more than 60 guests will engage in a scripted scenario that unfolds during a carefully prepared dinner. This immersive experience will have participants scrutinize clues and interact with a cast of characters to solve a compelling fictional crime.

Kim Fuller, the executive director of the Friends of Jimmy Carter National Historic Park, expressed her enthusiasm for the event. “It’s not just a dinner; it’s a fully interactive experience where our guests play a pivotal role in unraveling the mystery. It really draws everyone in,” Fuller said. The plot centers on the demise of Benefield Martin, a character portrayed for the past six years by Americus Mayor Lee Kinnamon.

The performance is designed to amuse and challenge the audience simultaneously. “Guests can expect a delightful meal prepared by professional chefs while enjoying performances from a troupe of talented actors, who bring humor and intrigue to the evening,” Kinnamon remarked, excluding himself modestly from the list of ‘very funny actors’.

The entire journey spans approximately two and a half hours, during which the train will pass through engaging landscapes that underscore the Southern charm of the area. Yet, it’s inside the beautifully restored carriages where the excitement really lies, with a narrative that captures the imagination and stimulates the senses.

Mayor Kinnamon encourages residents and visitors alike to join the engaging experience: “Come ride the train and enjoy a fun evening with Benefield and his cast of characters!”

This event is one of several hosted by the SAM Shortline Railroad, distinguishing itself as a key cultural attraction offering various thematic rides throughout the year. For those unable to attend this Saturday’s event, another murder mystery-themed dinner is already scheduled for September 7, providing another opportunity for enthusiasts to participate.

The unique configuration of dinner and drama aboard the SAM Shortline offers a memorable way for community members and tourists to experience local hospitality and entertainment, contributing to greater appreciation for both the historical and recreational resources of the area. This initiative not only boosts local tourism but also enriches the community’s cultural offerings, strengthening Americus’ position as a vibrant and attractive destination in the heart of Georgia.
