Cleveland Woman Sentenced in Boyfriend’s Fatal Stabbing

CLEVELAND, OH – A family seeking justice for a loved one in a tragic murder case found closure today as the woman responsible received her sentence. Sandra Cyrunk, who admitted to fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Charlie Willis Jr., was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison.

In a tearful courtroom scene, Cyrunk apologized to Willis’ family, expressing deep remorse for her actions. The incident occurred on January 7, when an argument between the couple escalated, leading to Willis being found in a stairwell with multiple stab wounds at his East 81st Street apartment.

The Cleveland Police Department responded to the scene after a resident discovered Willis. Authorities reported that the couple had been drinking throughout the night, which may have contributed to the tragic events.

Initially charged with murder, Cyrunk’s plea was changed to involuntary manslaughter, accompanied by charges of felonious assault and tampering with evidence. Her defense emphasized her remorse and lack of intent in the crime.

During the sentencing, Willis’ family addressed Cyrunk, expressing their grief and questioning why such a tragedy occurred. They spoke of Willis’ daughter, grandchildren, and siblings who are left to mourn his loss.

Judge Malianne Murphy handed down the sentence, detailing the terms for involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. Cyrunk will serve her time consecutively, having already spent 219 days in custody.

Cyrunk will now be transferred to the Ohio Women’s Reformatory in Marysville to complete her sentence, which ranges from 15 to over 20 years. The victim’s family hopes this resolution brings them some peace.

The case highlights the devastating effects of domestic disputes and the importance of seeking help in volatile situations.
