CLOQUET, MN – Police have identified the shooter and victims in the tragic incident that unfolded at a Super 8 motel on Monday night. The shooter has been named as Nicholas Elliot Lenius, 32, of Ramsey, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim found shot dead in a vehicle in the motel’s parking lot has been identified as Patrick Jeffrey Roers of Deer River. Additionally, the hotel clerk, Shellby Marie Trettel, 22, of Cloquet, succumbed to her injuries at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth the night of the shooting.

The tragic event unfolded on Monday at approximately 6:30 p.m. when an employee of the Super 8 hotel in Cloquet called 911 to report an attack on Trettel. Upon arrival at the scene, the police found Roers dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a car in the hotel parking lot. It was determined through surveillance video that he was the gunman.
