CLOVIS, Calif. — Following the arrest of two teenagers connected to the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Caleb Quick, police have released new details about the incident that has shocked the community. During a news conference, Clovis Police Chief Curt Fleming described the alleged gunman as a 16-year-old boy, while a 16-year-old girl is believed to have acted as the getaway driver. Both suspects are students within the Clovis Unified School District but have not been publicly identified.
Chief Fleming stated that investigators gathered substantial evidence, including witness statements and surveillance footage, which links the suspects to the crime scene at a McDonald’s restaurant on April 23. The footage reportedly shows one suspect following Quick for an extended period before the shooting occurred outside the establishment.
The chief noted that preliminary evidence indicates the suspects were captured on video arriving in a Tesla an hour before the shooting. After the incident, additional video footage recorded the male suspect fleeing the scene, with the Tesla trailing closely behind.
In a recent search, police discovered a white Tesla parked in the garage of a residence located just a mile from the restaurant. Investigators had been monitoring the suspects, who, according to Fleming, had sought legal representation prior to their surrender. The female suspect reportedly turned herself in at a Fresno attorney’s office, while the male suspect followed suit later that same day.
Both teenagers face murder charges, and while the investigation moved swiftly, Chief Fleming indicated that no tips from the community had contributed directly to the arrests, thereby nullifying a potential $40,000 reward offered by Valley Crime Stoppers.
The pair was known to Quick, with reports suggesting they were in a dating relationship, though officials have yet to disclose a motive for the shooting. Chief Fleming emphasized the importance of sharing verified information, steering clear of speculation while the investigation continues.
With the case now in the hands of the District Attorney’s Office, formal charges are expected to be filed by Tuesday. Authorities remain committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of Caleb Quick and have urged the community to cooperate as the investigation unfolds.
