Coconut Creek, FL — A South Florida community is in mourning after the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Bryce McFadden at a local condominium complex on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the Coco Parc condominiums, prompting police to initiate a manhunt for the assailant, who remains at large. Authorities enforced a shelter-in-place order for several hours as they scoured the area.
McFadden, remembered warmly by his peers and educators, had graduated from Youth Under Construction, a school known for its tight-knit community and efforts to address societal issues. Delvin King, the principal of the school, described McFadden as a charismatic individual whose presence was a comfort to fellow students and staff.
The atmosphere at the school was notably subdued as news of McFadden’s untimely death reached his former schoolmates. “It’s heartbreaking to see such a young, promising life cut short so abruptly,” remarked Christian Brooks, a current student at Youth Under Construction. “These tragedies are becoming all too familiar.”
Tragically, this was not the first time the school community had faced loss due to gun violence. Just months earlier, another former student had fallen victim, a point that King highlighted as he provided a photograph of McFadden with his late schoolmate. The repeating pattern of violence has shaken the school and intensified their resolve to extend their educational efforts beyond the classroom to address broader community issues.
“This is a stark reminder of the urgent work we need to undertake within our community to prevent these senseless acts of violence,” explained Principal King. “We are committed to fostering an environment that not only educates but also safeguards our youth.”
The Coconut Creek Police Department has stated that the shooting was not a random act, suggesting that the victim might have been specifically targeted, though motives and further details remain under investigation. Detectives are actively following leads but have yet to release additional information regarding a suspect or suspects.
Brooks expressed a strong desire for justice and emphasized the community’s collective grief and bewilderment over the violence. “To the person responsible, all we ask for is justice. Such a tragedy should never have happened,” he said.
Authorities are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. As the search continues, the community clings to hope for answers and justice for McFadden. The incident has left an indelible mark on the youth and educators of Youth Under Construction, reminding them of the urgency of their mission to heal and protect their community.
