Karachi, Pakistan – A beloved local social worker was fatally shot in a violent altercation near Chalia Market in New Karachi, just before the breaking of the Ramadan fast on Friday. Abdul Jabbar, 45, noted for his charitable efforts, including organizing daily Iftar meals during Ramadan, tragically died in the attack which also left two others injured.
The incident unfolded as assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on a group gathered for the Iftar meal. Eyewitnesses at the scene retaliated, leading to a shootout that resulted in the loss of Jabbar and wounding of Babuuddin and Ehtesham, who are currently receiving medical treatment.
The assault spurred immediate reaction from the local community and Jabbar’s family, who are mourning the loss of a figure renowned for his generosity and public service. The family, overwhelmed with grief and shock, described their anguish upon receiving the devastating news and arriving at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to find Jabbar had already died from his injuries.
