Community Mourns the Loss of Beloved Hartselle Woman After Tragic Shooting at Home

HARTSELLE, Ala. — In a shocking incident that has left the community in mourning, Nancy Deanne Sandlin Fox was found dead in her home on Thursday after a reported domestic dispute. The 59-year-old woman was shot and killed, prompting a rapid response from law enforcement, who arrived just after she phoned them regarding an altercation. Police were still at the scene when they heard gunfire.

When officers entered the residence, they discovered Fox deceased while Wyatt Young, 25, was found unarmed outside her home. He has since been charged with capital murder and is currently being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail.

The grief over Fox’s death is palpable among her family and friends, who describe her as a beacon of kindness in the community. Her daughter, Katlyn McNutt, expressed how deeply devastating this loss feels, noting that Young was someone familiar to her mother. Young had previously worked at Amethyst Sage, Fox’s shop.

Community members have taken to social media and local gatherings to share their condolences and memories. One neighbor mentioned how Fox was always ready to offer a listening ear and a warm embrace to those in need. “She treated everyone like family,” the neighbor stated.

The impact of Fox’s generosity extended beyond Hartselle, reaching neighboring Decatur. Local business owner Julie McMahon shared her admiration for Fox, describing her as a woman who embodied compassion and community service. “Nancy made a significant difference in our lives. She inspired me to step up for others, especially as a small business owner,” McMahon said.

To honor Fox’s legacy, McMahon is planning a celebration of life event at her shop, Practical Magick, where friends and family can gather to share stories and remember the positive influence Fox had on so many.

As her family navigates this painful time, they have requested that the community keep them in their thoughts and prayers. A funeral service is scheduled for this Sunday, allowing loved ones to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a woman who touched many hearts.
