MCCOMB, Miss. — A community mourns the loss of a dedicated police officer who was fatally shot in an incident believed to involve murder-suicide. Sergeant Jason Blake, 42, who served with the McComb Police Department, was off duty during the tragic event that unfolded on August 5.
Visitation for Sergeant Blake is scheduled for the evening of August 15 at Hartman Jones Funeral Home, with services continuing the next day at First Baptist Church McComb. Friends and family can pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and again from 9 a.m. Saturday until the funeral at 11 a.m.
The incident began when officers responded to a home on Cole Thomas Road shortly after 3 p.m. Investigators have reported that Clay Paulk, who previously had a relationship with a resident of the home, forcibly entered the property. He allegedly opened fire with a shotgun, striking both Blake and Nicki Wilson, a woman in the house. Following the shooting, Paulk reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Wilson was taken to Southwest Regional Medical Center, where her injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.
Blake had a notable career in law enforcement, working for the McComb Police Department for five years and accumulating a total of 16 years of service, which included a tenure at the Pike County Sheriff’s Office. In addition to his law enforcement duties, he was a proud member of the Mississippi National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Rhae, and their children, along with his mother, Brenda Hoskins, and his siblings, who now face the difficult task of navigating life without him.
The community is coming together to support Blake’s family during this challenging time, illustrating the profound impact he had on those around him. Members of the department and local residents have expressed their sorrow and solidarity, highlighting the loss of not only a colleague but a friend.
