Woodstock, Georgia — Authorities are actively investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old resident, Matthew Milner, who was found with gunshot wounds inside his apartment on Monday evening. The incident has shocked the local community, where homicides are infrequent.
Officers responded to the Riverstock Apartments around 5:30 p.m. following a 911 call reporting the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Milner and administered immediate medical assistance alongside the Woodstock Fire Department. He was subsequently transported to Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Woodstock Police Capt. Ron Sinfelt confirmed that police do not currently believe there is an ongoing threat to the public but have increased patrols in the area to reassure residents. The investigation has garnered additional support from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), which are both assisting in gathering information and evidence.
“This is a tragic event for our community,” Capt. Sinfelt said. “We want to ensure we’re thorough in our efforts. The GBI provides valuable resources that will aid us in investigating this incident.”
Community members expressed their concerns following the shooting, acknowledging the rarity of violent crime in the area. As one resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed, “It’s frightening, especially because I have children. Events like this make you realize anything can happen.”
Neighbors have also been vocal in their prayers for Milner’s family, who were living in the apartment at the time. Local residents are in shock, recalling fond memories of the young man, highlighting the impact this loss has had on the community.
