Dancer’s Murder in US: Indian Government in Touch with Authorities

New Delhi – Indian authorities are actively involved in the investigation of the tragic murder of renowned Kuchipudi dancer, Amarnath Ghosh, in St. Louis, Missouri. Ghosh, who was pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Dance at Washington University, was fatally shot while on an evening walk.

The Indian consulate in Chicago has been in constant communication with local authorities in the United States, providing support and tracking the progress of the case. The embassy expressed deep condolences to Ghosh’s family and friends, emphasizing their commitment to seeking justice through forensic analysis and collaboration with law enforcement.

Television actor Devoleena Bhattacharjee brought attention to the incident through social media, pleading for assistance from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bhattacharjee described Ghosh as an outstanding dancer from Kolkata, highlighting his talent and academic pursuits, urging the Indian Embassy in the US to intervene in ensuring a thorough investigation and repatriation of his remains.

An alumnus of the prestigious Kalakshetra Academy in Chennai, Ghosh was a recipient of a National Scholarship for Kuchipudi from the International Cultural Ministry. Trained by esteemed dancers such as Bobita Dey Sarkar, Sri M.V Narasimhachari, and Padma Sri Adyar K Lakshman, Ghosh was a respected exponent in four dance styles.

The tragic murder of Ghosh adds to a troubling trend of violent incidents involving Indians or Indian-Americans in the United States in recent months. Just weeks prior, an Indian-origin motel owner was fatally shot by a homeless individual in Newport city, North Carolina, while another Indian-origin IT executive lost his life in a violent assault outside a restaurant in Washington.

As investigations continue, the Indian government remains dedicated to seeking justice for Amarnath Ghosh and addressing the escalating violence against members of the Indian diaspora in the United States. The ongoing collaboration between Indian and US authorities underscores the importance of international cooperation in combating such heinous crimes and ensuring the safety of all individuals, regardless of their nationality.
