Deadly Shooting Rocks Orlando Neighborhood, No Arrests Yet

Investigators worked through the night after a man was fatally shot in Washington Shores.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police launched a homicide investigation after a late-night shooting in the Washington Shores area left one man dead and drew a large overnight law enforcement response.

The incident unfolded late Sunday and quickly escalated into a major crime scene, with detectives working into the early morning hours to gather evidence and determine what led to the fatal shooting. No suspect has been publicly identified.

Police said officers were dispatched to Bethune Drive near Columbia Street just before 11 p.m. after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Edwin Collazo, was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Authorities said the shooting itself occurred shortly before officers arrived, around 10:30 p.m. Detectives have not released details about how the incident began or whether there were multiple people involved. Officials also have not said if any weapons have been recovered.

By around 3:30 a.m., the scene remained active, with numerous patrol cars, investigators and crime scene personnel visible along the street. Officers blocked off sections of the roadway as they documented evidence and attempted to reconstruct the sequence of events. The presence of multiple units suggested the seriousness of the case and the complexity of the investigation.

Police have not confirmed a motive and have not indicated whether the victim was targeted. It is also unclear if the suspect fled on foot or by vehicle. Detectives are expected to review surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses as part of their investigation.

The Washington Shores neighborhood, located west of downtown Orlando, is primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes and apartment complexes. Incidents like this can disrupt the community, though officials have not said whether residents should take any additional precautions.

Investigators are continuing to interview potential witnesses and follow up on leads. Police said additional details will be released as they become available, but emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages.

No arrests had been announced as of Monday, and authorities have not provided a description of any suspect. Detectives are working to determine whether there were any prior incidents or disputes connected to the shooting.

The case remains open, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Officials said the next updates are expected as detectives process evidence and complete initial interviews in the coming days.
