Clearwater, Fla. – A spate of violence shook Clearwater over the weekend as police investigated three separate shootings, which left two people dead and two others critically injured. The incidents, which do not appear to be connected, have rocked this ordinarily quiet community and prompted an urgent call for witnesses by local law enforcement officials.
The initial incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Washington Square apartments, a residential area close to St. Petersburg College’s Clearwater campus. Authorities reported that a dispute involving a 19-year-old and the suspected shooter escalated, resulting in gunfire. A 43-year-old woman and her 51-year-old partner were both struck. While the woman survived, her partner succumbed to his injuries at Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital. Police are withholding the victims’ names pending further investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.
Later that night, just before 11 p.m., officers were called to the 900 block of Vine Avenue after reports of another shooting came in. A 52-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was initially treated at Morton Plant Hospital before being transferred to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Although evidence suggests a drug-related motive and police believe the victim was acquainted with the assailant, the specifics of the altercation remain under wraps and no suspect has been taken into custody yet.
Sunday morning brought more grim news as police discovered the body of 38-year-old Everton Dove on an access road off U.S. 19 North. Dove, who was identified through his last known address at a hotel on Ulmerton Road, had been fatally wounded by gunshots. The circumstances surrounding Dove’s death are still under investigation, with no arrests announced.
Clearwater Police are intensifying their efforts to gather information and are urging anyone with knowledge about these incidents to come forward. As the community reels from this bout of violence, officials are hopeful that public cooperation will lead to swift justice for the victims and their families.
These separate but equally heinous crimes reflect a concerning uptick in violence that this community, like many others across the nation, is grappling with. As investigators work to untangle the events that led to these tragic outcomes, Clearwater residents are reminded of the ever-present need for vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement to ensure public safety.
