Detroit, Mich. — A 25-year-old man is facing murder charges following a violent confrontation at a local gas station that left a 60-year-old man dead. Kevin Maurice Farries is accused of fatally injuring Keith Graus early Tuesday at a Sunoco station located on Joy Road near Greenfield.
According to law enforcement, Graus had just exited the gas station’s convenience store when he encountered Farries, who was sitting in Graus’ parked Jeep. What followed was a brutal assault, during which Farries allegedly attacked Graus before getting back into the vehicle and running him over multiple times.
Witnesses reported that Graus sustained severe injuries from the attack. After the incident, Farries fled the scene in the victim’s Jeep. Authorities later located the vehicle not far from the gas station.
The situation escalated when Michigan State Police attempted to intercept Farries, who reportedly collided with a patrol car before speeding off. A pursuit ensued, leading officers through neighborhoods until Farries struck another patrol vehicle in Dearborn, ultimately losing control of the Jeep and crashing into a pole. He was apprehended shortly after the crash.
Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, but initial reports suggest it was an unprovoked act of violence. Police confirmed that Farries and Graus did not have any prior connection.
As the legal process unfolds, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has stated it is prepared to pursue strong charges against Farries. This incident has raised questions about safety and violence in public spaces, prompting discussions among community members and local leaders.
The investigation remains active as officials seek to piece together the events leading up to the tragic incident. Community members are urged to come forward with any additional information that may assist authorities in their inquiry.
