DETROIT, MI – A Detroit teacher has been charged with severe criminal offenses following accusations of sexual misconduct with a student, which allegedly took place at his residence. Jerome Younger, 54, has been placed on leave by the Detroit Public Schools Community District as investigations proceed.
The district confirmed Younger is barred from school premises while both an internal inquiry and legal proceedings are conducted. The charges include first and second-degree criminal sexual conduct, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
Younger, who has extensive experience in education and mentoring programs, has been involved with initiatives such as the Detroit Police Department’s Junior Police Cadet Program, where he reportedly mentored teens for decades.
Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido emphasized the gravity of the allegations, describing them as among the most severe under Michigan law. The prosecutor’s office is determined to pursue justice for victims of sexual violence.
During his arraignment, Younger received a bond set at $250,000, with a 10% cash requirement. If released, he will have to wear a monitoring device and avoid any contact with the alleged victim.
