BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — In a tense altercation early Wednesday morning, two deputies from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office were shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call. The incident unfolded shortly after 8:30 a.m. when officers received a report of a man forcibly entering a residence in the area.
According to authorities, a woman who lived in the home with her two young children managed to escape and call 911 before deputies arrived. The woman, believed to be estranged from the suspect, and her children, all under the age of 10, were unharmed during the confrontation and have been labeled as victims and witnesses, respectively.
When deputies approached the house, they encountered the suspect, who retreated into an attached makeshift bedroom area and opened fire. Details indicated that fewer than 10 rounds were exchanged in the ensuing shootout. One deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the hip, while the second deputy was shot in the hand. Both deputies returned fire, hitting the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the confrontation, the injured deputies were transported to University Hospital, where both were reported to be in stable condition. The sheriff’s office confirmed that one deputy has served over a decade in the department, while the other has been with the force for approximately two years.
Authorities identified the suspect as a 38-year-old Hispanic male with a criminal history, indicating there may have been outstanding warrants tied to previous incidents at the home. His name has not been disclosed.
As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities have begun reviewing body camera footage from the incident. The scene remained active for several hours as deputies gathered evidence. Officials have assured the community that there is no ongoing threat following the incident.
Both the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and local law enforcement are committed to thoroughly investigating the shooting as they ensure the safety of the community.
