Domestic Violence Suspect Dionte Reed Arrested in Joliet After Breaking Woman’s Phone

Joliet, Illinois – Dionte Reed, a 28-year-old Plainfield Kenicott Lane resident, has found himself in the Will County Jail for the fourth time since 2021. His most recent arrest involved allegations of choking a woman in Joliet and breaking her cell phone, leading her to seek help by using a landline to contact Joliet police.

According to Joliet police spokesperson Dwayne English, the incident occurred on March 7 during the lunch hour. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Lemorr Avenue where Reed had attacked the woman, striking her in the head and body while attempting to choke her. Additionally, Reed broke the victim’s cell phone, prompting her to call 911 from a landline before Reed fled the scene.

Despite Reed’s attempt to evade capture, officers located him near Midland Avenue and Campbell Street with no resistance, leading to his arrest. Reed also had an active Will County arrest warrant related to previous charges of DUI that he failed to appear in court for.

Following his arrest, Reed was taken to the Will County Jail on charges of aggravated domestic battery and interference with the reporting of domestic violence. However, he was later released over the weekend in accordance with the conditions set by the SAFE-T-Act, pending his next appearance at the Will County Courthouse.

This latest incident is not the first time Reed has encountered legal troubles, with a history of multiple arrests within a relatively short period. The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the importance of prompt reporting to law enforcement. Hopefully, this arrest will lead to justice for the victim and serve as a deterrent for potential offenders in the future.
